Oggi i Master all’estero vanno di moda, questo che pubblichiamo però non è un Master, potremmo definirlo il rapporto di una “Mission”. L’ha compiuta nel 1876 Jacques David su incarico della Società Intercantonale delle industrie orologiere del Jura, preoccupate dai risultati della concorrenza statunitense.

This is not a report of a Master, but of a Mission by Jacques David, Francillon’s cousin, who spent some months in U.S. visiting the most important watch industries because Swiss Export was suffering by american concurrence.

In ottobre a Milano gli appassionati di movimenti con automi hanno potuto ammirare alcuni rari esemplari della collezione Sandoz, presentati da Michel Parmigiani (autore dei restauri). Nel 2012 una bellissima mostra a Neuchâtel è stata dedicata ai tre artisti più importanti del Cantone, Pierre Jaquet-Droz, suo figlio Henri-Louis e il loro collaboratore Jean-Frédéric Leschot.

Having seen a big interest for automates masterpieces during Pisa’s exibition in Milano, here other news about three important clocks, restored within 2018, by Association Automates et Merveilles and by Jaquet-Droz.

Mostra Rolex Daytona da Pisa

Pochi orologi come il Rolex Cosmograph Daytona hanno suscitato nel mondo tanto entusiasmo, così la mostra, allestita a Milano da Pisa in Montenapoleone,da oggi fino a domenica 27 novembre, è un richiamo per tutti, giovani e meno giovani.

No watches than Rolex Daytona have been a symbol for more than 60 years. Since the Sixties this chronograph has been a dream for people loving fine watchmaking even if Rolex first chronographs were born in 1910 and Cosmograph in the Thirties. Pisa Orologeria has organized a Daytona Exhibition from today till November 27th. Here a short history of this beloved chronograph.

La Regina delle complicazioni è un risultato tecnico che da Patek Philippe coinvolge non solo i pù abili Maestri orologiai o gli ingegneri, ma arriva fino ai vertici; infatti il “placet“, a lungo nelle mani (anzi nelle orecchie) di Philippe Stern, recentemente è passsato a suo figlio Thierry.

OK for Patek Philippe Minutes Repeater watches was given in the past by Philippe Stern and now by his son Thierry. On line, in PP library, there is a fine book about PP MR with technical informations and pictures from the first Pocket watch (1846 sold to an italian Cardinal) to all the wrist watches from Ladys one in 1916 and Gent in 1924, till those made in 2012.

A special edition sold only in boutique, of 100 Lange1 World Time in honey gold, tribute to Brand which in Dresden came back among great watchmaking on 1994 October,

Il Breguet n°5 (riedizione) a Milano

Nella boutique Breguet a Milano abbiamo ammirato la riedizione in platino di uno dei primissimi Breguet: il n°5.

We saw in Montenapoleone Breguet’s n°5 new edition (5 with gold case and 5 platinum). Maîtres horlogers worked on this Perpetual Pocket Watch quarter repetear à toc, phase and age of the moon, for more than one year. Below, n°5 history and also original Breguet n°5 (with movement) sold by Habsburg Auction in 1991.

Orologeria in rosa

Oggi le donne manager non fanno più notizia, nemmeno in orologeria. Il primo esempio però risale a Vacheron&Constantin che negli ultimi decenni dell’Ottocento fu guidata con successo, fra l’incredulità e le critiche della rigida comunità ginevrina, da Catherine-Etienette, vedova di Jacques Barthelemy Vacheron, insieme alla nuora Laure, vedova di Charles Vacheron.

Even if it’s quite normal now to see Ladies managing firms, among watchmaking Brands the first example arrives from Vacheron&Constantin in XIX Century. Now there are daughters entering in family’s firm, others owing their firm, among them there is also Betty Fiechter who bought Blancpain Brand.
